There are various quaint Peak District villages like Castletown, view points like Mam Tor and other caverns to explore in this area - all about 20 minutes or so from Eyam.Įyam has its own history.

This is next to the impressive Winnats Pass which you can drive through or even hike if you are up to it. This is not for the claustraphobic, but is a really unique thing to experience and understand the hardships of the miners who spent many hours under the ground. We went to Speedwell Cavern - a trip into old lead mining tunnels in a boat. You can walk to this in about 45 minutes uphill or a 10 minute drive. There are a couple of pubs in the village within walking distance, or the owners recommend the Barrel Inn which has wide reaching views and delicious food. The owners leave a breakfast basket for you that can be tailored to dietary needs and you can order celebration hampers as a treat.Ĭhoose from bubbles / beer / non alcoholic drinks and cake / pork pie / cheese and biscuits! Great to have this as a tasty treat for your first evening of settling in to the hut. Outside there is a picnic table with benches and other outside seating, and with the treehouse terrace and extra firepit there you can switch up where you hangout throughout your stay. This is a great extra space with washing machine, fridge, kettle, toaster and washing up facilities, so although you can’t cook here, it is possible to enjoy a morning cup of tea or coffee, breakfast and knock up a cold lunch and keep drinks cold. The shower room is a short stroll away by the house with electric shower and toilet and space to get ready for the day, even a hairdryer. Inside we were delighted to find a breakfast hamper, table and seating as well as the comfortable double bed with ledge and bedside table so both guests can set out their books etc. Warmed with an electric radiator that kept us toasty warm, you can also light a woodburner inside or fire pit outside. With a heart shape cut out in the door, romance is at the forefront from the start. We really enjoyed our brief stay here and would have loved to have had more time to explore this beautiful area with its amazing scenery.
